Auguste Comte, 1798-1857

There are a number of solid Internet resources about the work of Auguste Comte, but not as many as one might expect. This is especially troubling since Comte is known as the "father of sociology." Auguste Comte and Positivism offers an extensive collection of material related to positivism and Comte's role in the creation of modern sociology. It is unfortunate, however, that there is no detailed biography available at this site. The site is currently in French although the authors have been busy translating the site into English as well. The site also contains a section on Comte's Disciples & Admirers as well as the most extensive collection of etexts available on the Internet. Elsewhere on the Internet you can find an interesting Comte Chronology
