Paul Halsall's Byzantium: Byzantine Studies Page is an excellent starting point and contains a wealth of information regarding both primary and secondary sources. You should also consult Halsall's sections of Byzantine Paleography and his Gallery: Byzantine Images. The Catholic Encyclopedia has an excellent essay on the Byzantine Empire. At Ohio State you will find a Chronology of Early Byzantine History which will certainly help you in your studies. To round out your appreciation of Byzantine civilization, make sure you take a look at an outstanding resources located at Unipissing in Canada -- A Visual Tour Through Late Antiquity. Other Resources: Byzantine Architecture Project; Byzantine Art; Guide to Medieval and Byzantine Studies Resources; and the Reign of Justinian.
